Simple Harmonic: A Symphony of Curves and Materials

Ekko Chen Crafts Modern Residence with Unique Arcs and Textures

In the realm of residential design, Ekko Chen's Simple Harmonic project emerges as a modern sanctuary, tailored for two sisters by their mother's loving initiative. This award-winning residence harmonizes form and function through innovative use of materials and thoughtful spatial planning.

At the heart of Simple Harmonic lies the desire to create a contemporary dwelling that resonates with its inhabitants. The design eschews bright colors for a low-saturation palette, allowing the intricate details to sing. The residence's signature feature, white cabinets adorned with semi-circular arcs, not only adds aesthetic appeal but also cleverly incorporates quarter-circle storage solutions, marrying beauty with practicality.

The residence stands out for its masterful blend of diverse materials, achieving a cohesive look through a well-considered color scheme. The juxtaposition of glossy and matte finishes, along with the interplay between convex and flat surfaces, lends a distinct solidity to the space. This material symphony is composed of metal, stainless steel, laminate flooring, and a variety of finishes, each playing its part in the overall visual narrative.

Spanning 148.7 square meters, the residence includes two bedrooms, a living room, and a dining area, each space meticulously designed to cater to the clients' lifestyle. The interior layout is customized to enhance the flow of daily activities, while also adhering to Feng-Shui principles, as evidenced by the strategically placed cabinet in the foyer that doubles as a functional vista.

Simple Harmonic is not just a renovation but a reimagining of an empty apartment into a personalized haven. The design addresses the specific needs of the clients, providing ample storage and a seamless living experience. The dressing rooms, in particular, are crafted to offer individual space and convenience, reflecting the occupants' aspirations for their ideal home.

The project's completion in February 2021 in Taiwan marked the culmination of a design journey that navigated technical constraints, such as low ceilings and complex angles, with creative solutions. The use of rounded lines and curved forms throughout the space, from dining cabinets to ceiling designs, softens the architectural challenges and adds a fluid elegance to the residence.

Ekko Chen's Simple Harmonic is a testament to the power of design in creating spaces that not only meet functional needs but also elevate the human experience. The residence's distinct aesthetic, characterized by earthy tones and a mix of styles, showcases the designer's ability to craft spaces that are visually compelling yet intimately personal. It's no surprise that this project has earned the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award, recognizing its contribution to design excellence and quality of life.
